After just two games, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have already opened up a five-point gap on reigning Champions Chelsea.
The Citizens started and finished the game, against what are one of their direct rivals, in uncompromising fashion. Going into the game, Pellegrini had only managed two wins in twelve games against Mourinho.
Such a miserable record must have made this victory taste all the more sweet for the Chilean. Chelsea fell to a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad, and after two games have just one point on the board.
Things are looking oh so very different at City, who racked up a further three points with three goals, a result which moves them to the top of the pile. In reality, City could, and should have easily gone in at the break with the game already won. The hosts came out in rip-roaring fashion, and the only surprise was that they went in just one goal to the good at half-time, courtesy of an Agüero strike. In the closing stages, Kompany y Fernandinho completed a rout which leaves Chelsea in strife in the opening weeks of the season.
