Returning for his second consecutive year as host, Conan O’Brien presided over a ceremony that ran roughly three hours and forty-five minutes. The event was televised on ABC and streamed live on Hulu.

This year’s Oscars showcased a garden courtyard–inspired stage design, live musical numbers including I Lied To You from Sinners, a tribute by Barbra Streisand to Robert Redford, and the customary In Memoriam segment. Security measures were notably increased in response to external threats.

The evening was marked by the dominance of two Warner Bros. films—One Battle After Another and Sinners—who continued their intense rivalry throughout the awards season.

Under the direction of Paul Thomas Anderson, One Battle After Another dominated the night by taking home six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. This gripping political thriller features Leonardo DiCaprio as a former radical ensnared in a dangerous, high-stakes pursuit.

Meanwhile, Sinners, helmed by director Ryan Coogler, took home four Oscars—including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, who delivered a dual performance as twin brothers Elijah Smoke” Moore and Elias Stack Moore in the atmospheric vampire horror drama.

Despite entering the ceremony with a record-setting 16 nominations—the most in Academy Awards history—Sinners ended the night with fewer wins than anticipated. Nevertheless, the film achieved several historic firsts and contributed to a dominant showing for Warner Bros., which led all studios with 11 overall victories.

The 2026 Oscars were defined by several landmark achievements.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first woman to win Best Cinematography for her work on Sinners, and she also became the first woman of color ever nominated in the category. In her acceptance speech, she called on all women in the room to stand and thanked the network of women who supported her campaign.

Another milestone unfolded with the debut of the Best Casting award—the first new competitive Oscar category in 24 years—which went to One Battle After Another.

For Anderson, the night represented a long-awaited breakthrough. After 14 previous nominations, he finally earned his first Oscars, winning Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay—all in one night—making him only the ninth person in Academy history to achieve this triple honor.

Veteran actress Amy Madigan also set a record for the longest gap between acting nominations, returning to the Oscars after 40 years to win Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.

Other notable winners included Frankenstein, which dominated several craft categories, while the animated hit KPop Demon Hunters secured two awards.
