In a statement released on its official X account on Sunday and signed by the company’s management, the Group described the passing of Ruth as deeply saddening and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving Otabor family.

Ruth, a fresh graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was critically injured on August 13 when a Dangote truck rammed into her, leaving her leg crushed. She later underwent an amputation as doctors battled to stabilize her condition.

According to Dangote Group, officials of the company, alongside its insurance partners, had been with Ruth and her family since the accident occurred, covering all medical and financial expenses while making arrangements for further treatment abroad.

The statement revealed that before her death, plans had been finalized to fly Ruth to India for advanced medical treatment, pending clearance from her doctors.

Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family, the company noted.

The company expressed pain that despite these efforts, Ruth could not survive.

Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today, the statement read.

While commiserating with Phyna, her family, and well-wishers, the Dangote Group emphasized that safety, accountability, and compassion remain central to its operations.

At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest, the company added.
