If the reputation of Aliko Dangote as one of the world’s ‘movers and shakers’ was ever in doubt, a new list of World’s Most Powerful People by Forbes will erase such uncertainty.
Dangote is only one of the two Africans on the list of 73 most powerful people in the world. The other African on the list is Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Jacob Zuma of South Africa and President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria do not wield as much power as the business magnate who is ranked 71, one place ahead of Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
The other African, Abdel al-Sisi of Egypt sits pretty on number 49 but the list is topped by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He is followed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who moves up three spots from last year, while President Barack Obama, who is ranked number three dropped one spot, making it the first year a sitting US President will be ranked outside the top two.
Pope Francis retained his place this year as number four ahead of General Secretary, Communist Party of China’s Xi Jinping who fell two spots to become number five.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Co-chair Bill Gates (No. 6), Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen (No. 7), U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron (No. 8), India Prime Minister Narendra Modi (No. 9) and Alphabet CEO Larry Page (No. 10).
