A man identified as Mr. Seidu Dan Iya has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly slitting his daughter’s throat.
The suspect believed to be suffering from a psychological problem after an alleged long-time drug abuse was arrested after a neighbor reported the incident to the police. It was further learned that when neighbors asked the suspect why he slit his daughter’s throat he said that he just felt like doing it.
The State’s police spokesperson DSP Suleiman Yahaya, confirmed the arrest of Seidu and further disclosed that an investigation has been launched to establish the health condition of the suspect in police custody.
Though Dr. Elkanah Patrick who treated 8-year-old Zarau Seidu at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yola said the girl has a 50-50 chance of survival, the hospital’s Head of Clinical Services Dr. Yerima Suleiman Yusuf, said the hospital will treat the victim free of charge.
He said: “We have a Paupers’ Fund from which we will treat this patient, because we realise that the mother is not ready and the father has a psychiatric problem.”
