But instead, his journey ended at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
According to Zagazola Makama, Boluwatife was rushed to the hospital by his roommates, who found him unresponsive in bed.
Police detectives who visited the scene were told by one of his roommates, Adili Leonard Chimdindu, that Boluwatife had earlier complained of cold and difficulty in breathing on July 27. He was advised to seek medical help at the university’s health centre, but it’s unclear whether he ever did.
He was fine the previous night. He played games on his laptop till around 11pm, Adili said. By morning, we noticed he wasn’t moving.
The news has sent shockwaves across campus, with many students still struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
The police confirmed that photographs of the body were taken and that a statement was obtained from Boluwatife’s elder brother, Akawa Toluwanimi John, who was visibly shaken by the development.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the university morgue for autopsy as investigations continue.
Police say no foul play has been established yet, but the full circumstances surrounding his death remain under review.
