House of Reps Members Drag Azman Air to Court, Seek N5b Damages for Flight Delay

Nine Members of the House of Representatives has dragged Azman Air Services Limited, an airline operator to court for delaying their flight from 12:30 pm in the afternoon to 1: am midnight.

The Honorable members, Alh Rijau Shehu Saleh, Hon Agunsoye Rotimi,Rotimi,Hon Benjamin Kalu, Dr Henry Archibong, Kabo Abdullahi Alhassan, Ahmed Mariya Bashir, Hon Ikengboju Dele gboluga, Hon Bala Kokani and Hon Eke Bede, also wants the court to award a cost of N75m against the airliner.

The Members were in Kano as members of the House Committee on Petroleum Upstream and Petroleum Technology Development Fund(PTDF) on training.

According to Court documents filed on behalf of the Honorable members by their lawyer, Nkem Okoro Esq, and made available to BarristerNG, their flight was initially scheduled for 12:30 pm on 22nd September but was further shifted from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and from 2:30 pm to 6 pm and from 6:pm to 9 pm and from 9 pm to 12:15 am the next day, and the honorable members eventually boarded the flight by 1 am the following day.

All through these periods of cancellation of the flight time and shifting of same, that the entire staff and agents of the airliner, deserted the airport and no single staff of the Airliner was available to attend to them or take care of their welfare.

According to the Court papers, the Honorable members were neither fed, nor attended to in any form whatsoever and the entire staff of the Airliner, completely deserted them.

The Honorable members claimed they were exposed to unmitigated humiliation and embarrassment, forced to stay in an overcrowded VIP Lounge, all through the day and were exposed to the risk of contacting the new Delta Variant of COVID 19.

The Reps members also claimed that they were also exposed to security risk, given the volatile nature of security in the country and they greatly feared for their lives.

They also accused the airliner of Negligence.

The hearing date of the case has not been fixed.
