Popular Nigerian skit maker and comedian Abdulgafar Ahmad, better known as Cute Abiola, has opened up about the challenges he overcame during his time in the Nigerian Navy, describing it as the most critical part of his life.
In a recent interview on HipTV, Cute Abiola recounted how in November 2021 he was detained for breaching the Nigerian Navy’s regulations on social media usage.
Following his release, he was tasked with supervising gutter-cleaning operations in a Navy barracks for one month.
That time was the most critical part of my life, and I was still able to achieve shooting content and being in the Navy. That was very, very hard,” he said. Despite working Monday through Saturday, he maintained a rigorous content schedule, posting skits two to three times a week.
I’ve done a lot of things that were tougher than my current situation. I used to be in the Nigerian Navy, he explained. I’m a very dedicated person because I know that I’m supposed to meet a target in my revenue. I have a target for myself, and I used that to motivate myself to make more than I made the previous month.Nigeria: Nigerian fashion
Cute Abiola also revealed the bureaucratic hurdles he faced when seeking formal approval to leave the Navy. I was overwhelmed with regard to the approval of my exit from the Navy by the Chief of Naval Staff so as for me to have enough time to passionately pursue my dreams, he added.
