The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspected car thief, Alhassan Isa, popularly known as Tata.
Isa, a resident of Shuwarin town in Kiyawa Local Government Area, was found in possession of a stolen Mazda 323 Model F with registration number MNA 139HK, Niger State.
According to a statement released on Sunday in Dutse by the Jigawa State Command Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, the vehicle’s owner, Abdurrahman Sadiq, reported the theft on February 21, 2025.
Sadiq, a staff member of the Nigerian Institute of Oil Palm Research, had parked the vehicle in Aujara village, Jahun Local Government Area, but forgot the key inside. By morning, the car was missing.
Following an investigation by detectives from the Dutse Division and the State Criminal Investigation Department, Isa was arrested and later confessed to the crime. Further findings revealed that he is an ex-convict with a history of motorcycle and tricycle theft.
SP Adam confirmed that Isa would face legal proceedings, assuring the public that justice would be served.
The Jigawa State Police Command urged vehicle owners to take extra precautions, including locking their vehicles and keeping valuables out of sight. The police also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or stolen vehicles to the authorities.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and reducing crime in the state.
