The Lagos State Government has announced temporary partial road closures across key routes ahead of major infrastructure project inaugurations scheduled for April 8 and 9, 2026. Motorists are urged to plan alternative routes to minimize travel disruptions during this period.
In a travel advisory released by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and reported by gidipoint, officials explained that these restrictions are essential to ensure public safety and the smooth execution of commissioning activities.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the traffic restrictions will affect major locations, including Ikeja, Ojota, Ajegunle, and Victoria Island, as preparations for the project inaugurations continue.
The Lagos State Government wishes to inform motorists of partial road closures for commissioning events of critical infrastructure projects on Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9, 2026, the statement read.
The advisory emphasized that these temporary measures are intended to maintain order and safeguard residents and participants during the events.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the affected areas during the specified times to reduce traffic congestion and delays.
According to the advisory, the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be inaugurated on Wednesday, April 8, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with anticipated traffic impacts in the Opebi, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and Ojota areas. Motorists traveling through these corridors are advised to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.
On Thursday, April 9, two major events will take place at different times. The first, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is the inauguration of the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, which will affect traffic around Olodi Apapa and surrounding neighborhoods. Motorists in these areas should seek alternative routes and allow extra travel time.
Later that day, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., an event at Eko Hotel in Victoria Island will prompt increased security and traffic control, with motorists advised to avoid the area or expect delays.
To manage vehicle movement and assist commuters, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel will be deployed to all affected routes. The public is urged to cooperate with traffic officials and follow all instructions for a smooth flow of traffic.
The state government appeals for patience and understanding from road users, assuring that these measures are temporary and necessary to ensure the successful completion of the inauguration events.
