London mayor praises Nigerian content creator over TikTok award win

Bemi Orojuogun, the UK-based Nigerian content creator known online as ‘Bus Aunty,’ has won the TikTok ‘Video of the Year’ award in the UK and received public congratulations from Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London.

The 56-year-old creator, known for her vibrant videos filmed in front of London’s red buses, saw a clip from November 2024 amass nearly 50 million views, ultimately securing the top prize at a ceremony hosted by AJ Odudu at Magazine London.

In her acceptance speech, the grandmother expressed heartfelt thanks to her team, her daughter, her fellow nominees, and her supporters.

She also singled out Transport for London and the rapper Stormzy as key figures who helped propel her to fame.

I want to thank everybody on my team. All the nominees for the best video. You are all amazing. I did not prepare any speech. I want to God. Without God I will not be here, she said.

I want to thank my daughter. She has been fantastic. Thank you to everyone who thinks I deserve this award. Thank you TikTok for allowing someone like me to shine.

Khan took to X to celebrate Bemi’s achievement on social media. The mayor of London praised how her content captured hearts across the country.
