A London teacher who posed as a teenage boy to prey on schoolgirls online has been jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of a series of child sex offences spanning four years and five English counties.
Syed Shahreear Ahmed, 37, of Mossford Lane, Barkingside, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 26 September.
He will serve a further five years on licence and remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Ahmed was convicted on 13 June of 14 offences, including three counts of child rape, three sexual assaults, attempted sexual assault, grooming, and inciting children to engage in sexual activity.
He had previously admitted possessing and making indecent images of children, including Category A material, the most severe classification.
Between 2019 and 2023, Ahmed targeted girls aged 13 to 15 via social media, befriending them with a fake teenage persona before arranging meetings to carry out serious sexual assaults.
His crimes came to light in May 2023 when two girls bravely reported their ordeals to Kent Police. In one incident, a 14-year-old escaped by leaping from Ahmed’s moving car after he tried to assault her.
Detective Inspector Peter Harvey of the Met Police described Ahmed as a “manipulative serial predator,” adding: “It is due to the bravery of the girls who came forward that we have been able to achieve this outcome. I remain concerned Ahmed may have committed other offences and urge anyone who recognises him to come forward.
The Met worked with Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, and Thames Valley Police to review 500GB of phone data and hundreds of hours of evidence, eventually piecing together Ahmed’s offending timeline.
Police have appealed for further victims, stressing that specially trained officers and support services are available to provide care and protection.
