Talks to renew Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes contract have temporarily stopped after the Monaco Grand Prix, with Toto Wolff having been given until mid-June to reach an agreement with the driver.
Discussions had gotten underway prior to the event in the principality, but things went wrong for the Brit there. After completing a disappointing qualifying, Hamilton had some pointed words in a meeting with team coaches.

Hamilton said that he “couldn’t have done any better” in Monaco, as Mercedes hadn’t given him a competitive car. His words, expectedly, haven’t been well received. Changes had been made to the car, but they were not adapted to Hamilton’s driving style.
Motorsport.com are now reporting that cracks are starting to show in the relationship, and there are now doubts that a short-term extension will be agreed.
