Renowned Nigerian chess master and Chess in Slums founder, Tunde Onakoya, has revealed why he turned down a life-changing opportunity that could have significantly impacted his career.
Taking to Twitter (X), Onakoya shared that the decision was tough, but he ultimately chose to stay true to his values and long-term vision.
Why He Rejected the Offer
According to him, while the opportunity wasn’t necessarily wrong, it did not align with his core beliefs. Despite wrestling with the decision, he emphasized that integrity is the real wealth.
In his words:
“I recently turned down life-changing money. Not because it was exactly wrong, but it did not align with my values or the vision of who I’m becoming.
“It was not an easy decision. I wrestled and tried to justify saying yes, but in the end, integrity is the real wealth. I feel liberated by my decision. I can do anything now.”
He also expressed gratitude to a mentor, @OgaBoxx, for guiding him through the process.
