Popular content creator and comedienne Nons Miraj has shared an inspiring account of her journey to financial independence, emphasizing that she made her first million on her own terms without the support of a man.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Nons Miraj, who initially started in Nollywood, opened up about her early struggles in the entertainment industry. She described the financial returns from acting as meager, recalling that after shooting for months, she would be paid less than what a typical salary job would offer. “It was rubbish money; unlike a salary job where you make 70K monthly, they pay you 90K after shooting for three months. It was not worth it,” she said.
Seeking more profitable opportunities, Nons ventured into buying and reselling perfumes and jewelry. She explained how she would travel to Balogun market, purchase products at affordable prices, and resell them for a significant profit. “I would go to Balogun market, buy perfumes and jewelry for N3K and sell them at N50K. I divided the profit into two: one for my piggy bank and the other to fund my life,” she shared.
While she acknowledged that men showed interest during that time, Nons was quick to clarify that she never sought financial sponsorship from them. “Men were coming but not the type you think will sponsor your life. I was in a relationship but not in the sugar daddy vibe,” she added.
Her breakthrough came when she fully embraced content creation, and her growing presence on social media began to positively impact her acting career as well. “I was saving with my mum, I had my own savings, my salon was there, and acting started paying N300K after social media presence,” she said.
The rise of her brand “Ada Jesus” brought her major endorsement deals and helped her earn her first $20,000, especially after launching her YouTube series, Love Show.
“I didn’t wait for a man to give me; my pride grew when I started making more money. There’s nothing I couldn’t give myself,” she proudly concluded.

Nons Miraj’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, self-reliance, and smart hustling, challenging the notion that female success always requires a wealthy male sponsor.
