Peter Mr P Okoye, the Nigerian singer, has responded to reports of a man sharing his name who was recently arrested in Ghana for alleged kidnapping and fraud.
A viral video showed Ghanaian police apprehending a 31-year-old suspect identified as Peter Okoye.
The man was accused of kidnapping and defrauding two women — Anastasia Baidoo Arthur and Evelyn Konadu — under the guise of marriage proposals.
Due to the shared name, some social media users mistakenly linked the arrest to the musician.
Reacting via his X page, Mr P urged the Ghana Police Service to clarify the suspect’s identity, firmly stating that he has no connection to the case.
Abeg make una dey specifically dey specify which PETER OKOYE I no be Thief, he wrote in pidgin English.
The two kidnap victims were rescued by the police while Okoye and other suspects including Chinonso Okafor, Christian Emeka and Paulinus Chidokwe were arrested.
Recently, Mr P appeared in court as the first prosecution witness in the alleged fraud case involving his older brother, Jude Okoye.
Jude is being tried alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd, before Ramon Oshodi of the Ikeja high court over allegations of money laundering involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
