After week one matches which excluded the four newly promoted teams, week two matches in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, will hold today with mouth-watering fixtures involving most of the teams.
Matches involving Lobi Stars and Rangers won’t hold because of their continental engagements.
Interestingly, the four newly promoted clubs, Kada Stars, Remo Stars, Gombe United and Bendel Insurance of Benin will have the opportunity to show football fans what they have to offer.
While reigning NNL champions Kada Stars will play host to Yobe Desert Stars in Kaduna, Bendel Insurance will be punching above their weight as they welcome former champions Enyimba FC in Benin, Remo Stars take on Wikki Tourists in Shagamu, just as Gombe United will battle Akwa United at the Pantami stadium in Gombe.
Without doubt, Bendel Insurance will face the biggest test of their NPFL credentials when they face Nigeria’s most successful club side, Enyimba FC.
In other matches in group A, Niger Tornadoes will host Rivers United and Kwara United who drew 1-1 at home with Sunshine Stars in their opening match will travel to Lagos to face MFM who lost 0-2 to Enyimba in Aba.
The biggest clash of the mid-week fixtures will no doubt be the group B encounter between El-Kanemi Warriors and former champions Kano Pillars in Maiduguri.
Although both sides won their opening day fixtures, El-Kanemi are on top of group B courtesy of their stunning 1-0 away win at Akwa United.
Kano Pillars defeated Heartland 1-0 at the Sani Abacha stadium on the opening day of the season.
In other group B matches, Abia Warriors who lost 0-1 at Nasarawa United will host Go Round FC in Umuahia, FC IfeanyiUbah still basking in the euphoria of their 0-0 at former champions Plateau United will welcome Nasarawa United in Nnewi, just as Heartland FC will seek revival against Plateau United in Owerri.
