The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion plan to facilitate critical drainage improvement works in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
The project involves constructing a cross culvert to connect newly built drains along Modupe Alakija Crescent to an underground channel beneath the median on Osborne Road, aimed at enhancing the area’s drainage system.
According to a statement by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, In line with efforts to improve the drainage system on Modupe Alakija Crescent and its environs, there is a need to connect the newly constructed drains, via a cross culvert, to the underground channel beneath the median along Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Eti-Osa LGA.
The construction, requiring a section of Osborne Road to be cut near Foreshore Towers, is scheduled from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, to midnight on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
To minimize disruption, Osiyemi said the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would implement a traffic management plan over the two-day period.
Osiyemi explained, A traffic management plan will be implemented to involve a counter-flow arrangement along Osborne/Alfred Rewane Road, spanning approximately 100 meters from Modupe Alakija Crescent to the Alfred Rewane Road junction.
This includes diverting motorists heading to Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road into a contraflow lane before reconnecting to their normal lane, while those inbound Alfred Rewane Road from Osborne Road will be restricted to one lane to accommodate the counter-flow.
Alternative routes have been outlined to ease navigation.
Motorists from Osborne Road heading towards Alfred Rewane Road should use Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue to connect Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road to continue their journeys, Osiyemi advised.
Similarly, he said Motorists heading towards Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road should use Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road to connect Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue before continuing their journeys.
Osiyemi added that the road would be fully reopened by Monday, August 18, 2025.
The Commissioner urged patience, noting, Motorists are urged to be patient, as this partial closure is part of the traffic management plan to facilitate the ongoing drainage construction works along Osborne/Alfred Rewane Road. LASTMA will oversee vehicular movement to ensure minimal inconvenience during the project.
