The couple shared the news on their Instagram page on Wednesday, along with a black and white photograph of the newborn baby being introduced to the queen and duke of Edinburgh.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” read the post.

“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

By choosing to name their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Harry and Meghan have signified they will not use a title for their first born.

It is believed that as the first born son of a duke, Archie could have become earl of Dumbarton — one of Harry’s subsidiary titles — or even Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. But he will instead be called Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

Archie was given birth to on May 6, weighing seven pounds and six ounces — about 3.3kg. The baby is expected to be seventh-in-line to the throne.
