A federal judge convicted musician R. Kelly on several counts of child pornography and sexual abuse in Chicago.
This is the second time that R. Kelly has suffered a blow to his person in the pursuit of his innocence for his multiple charges.
R. Kelly was convicted of three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement. However, the jury acquitted the musician on a fourth pornography charge and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.
Who were involved in the R. Kelly case?
Derrel McDavid and Milton Brown were involved in the same trial as R. Kelly. However, the jury found McDavid “not guilty”.
Derrel McDavid was the musician’s business manager. McDavid was accused of conspiring with Kelly to arrange the 2008 trial.
R. Kelly faced 13 charges against him. A single child pornography conviction requires a minimum sentence of five years.
Depending on the case, judges may order defendants previously sentenced in separate cases to serve their new sentence concurrently or only after the first sentence has been served in full.
The jury found Kelly guilty and sentenced him to serve 30 years to try to make up for the great harm he did to the girls.
Kelly’s lawyers argued in court documents that he “experienced a traumatic childhood that included severe and prolonged childhood sexual abuse, poverty and violence.

Defendants must serve at least 85% of their sentence on child pornography charges.

In June 2022, evidence presented to a Chicago jury was compelling in proving that the singer, songwriter and music producer used his power to court inexperienced young girls.
Kelly’s purpose was to sexually abuse them. In addition, they were threatened not to reveal what happened in court.
