Nollywood actor, Clem Ohameze led residents of Oguta town, a major oil producing community in Imo state to protest against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Imo state government for marginalisation and neglect.

The aggrieved protesters decried lack of electricity supply for about 5 years in their community.

However, the EEDC Managing Director, Robert Dickerman said that they have only been disconnected for 6 months, adding that the debt profile of these oil communities is running into millions of Naira.

According to the report, the state government pays the electricity bills of oil producing communities in the state.

Dickerman urged the protesters to channel their anger to the state government.

However, the state government said that it has been paying N2.5 million every month to EEDC and that it paid N5.5 million two months ago. The state government also called on the protesters to direct their grievances to EEDC.
