In a recent Instagram post, the 64-year-old singer shared videos of herself looking lively and performing at an event while singing in the background and declaring, anyone who wishes me death should die before me.

Me, Salawat, my death day isn’t here yet. Anyone who wishes me death should die before me because my death day isn’t here yet, the song lyrics reads.

In an accompanying caption, Abeni assured her family, friends, and fans that she is alive, hail and hearty while urging them to disregard the death rumours.

She described the act of spreading false news as shameful and only done by blogs seeking to trend.

My family, friends, and fans home and abroad. Thank you so much for your love and concern. I am alive, hail, and hearty, she wrote.

Please disregard all the rumours. Some blogs will do the unthinkable just to trend. It is rather shameful. The Queen is fine and doing very well. May God bless you all.

Several public figures have recently been forced to dismiss false reports of their deaths.

Chiwetalu Agu, the Nollywood actor, described the rumour as diabolical and vowed that he would be the one to bury his enemies instead.

Earlier this month, Ebenezer Obey, the legendary Nigerian singer, also dismissed claims that he had died after suffering a stroke, marking the third time he would be refuting the same rumour.

Abeni began her career in 1976 with the release of her debut album Late General Muritala Ramat Mohammed, and she is widely known as the Queen of Waka.
