The operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command have rescued four kidnap victims.
The operatives also recovered arms and ammunition from the suspects.
The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the victims were rescued inside a forest between the Okigwe and Ideato local government areas of the state.
He stated, “On June 5, 2020, acting on a distress call from the police control room, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, stormed the Ikpaoha forest between the Okigwe and Ideato local government areas, and engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle. The hoodlums consequently fled the scene with gunshot injuries; one English-made pump action rifle with 27 live cartridges was recovered at the scene of the incident; four kidnap victims namely: Aminu Ibrahim, 55; Prof. Ekezie Christopher, 72; Friday Udoh, 33; and Onyekachi Nwibe, 29, were all rescued unhurt.
“A black Toyota Spider car with number plate PHC 407 AG and a Honda Accord with number plate LND 262 FM were recovered from the scene.
“The victims have been reunited with their families, while investigation into the incident continues as efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
