Selena Gomez, the US singer, has revealed why she took a break from music.
The 32-year-old Texas-born artiste has been off the music scene since she released a song in February.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez said she took a break from music to prepare for her role in Emilia Perez, a Spanish musical.
The pop artiste also disclosed how she repeatedly went over her lines for the film.
I stopped working on my music and anything else, and solely focused on this musical, she said.
Every day I’d wake up and rehearse the lines over and over again. And I’d call in the middle of the night, my Spanish teacher. That part was probably the most daunting, but it was also fun.
The singer spoke after the Telluride Film Festival’s North American premiere of the film.
Emilia Perez’ follows the story of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their happiness.
Gomez is one of the three principal stars of the musical — alongside Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón.

The film, in which Gomez stars as Jessi, will be released in select theaters on November 1 and Netflix on November 13.
