Spanish FA changes the schedule of the first three matchdays

LaLiga Santander’s opening three matchdays will see matches played on just Saturdays and Sundays after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) changed the schedules.

This will, for all intents and purposes, abolish the Friday and Monday evening matches as a key part of the Spanish footballing calendar, although LaLiga Santander are likely to appeal against the RFEF’s decision.

2) Matchday 2:

– Granada’s home match against a new-look Sevilla team will now be played on Saturday, August 24 at 8:30pm CET, unless Granada can find an alternative kick-off time.

– Levante will host Villarreal and it will now be played on Sunday, August 25 at 8:45pm CET, unless Levante are able to offer an alternative kick-off time.

– Albacete will have to provide an alternative kick-off time if there match against Girona is to change from the new date of Saturday, August 24 at 8:30pm CET.

– Leganes’ clash with Atletico Madrid will be played on Saturday, August 24 at 9:00pm CET, unless an alternative time can be found.

– Extremadura against Fuenlabrada will take place on Saturday, August 24 at 8:30pm, unless the hosts can provide a different kick-off time.

– Sevilla will host Celta Vigo in one of the more attractive ties in Matchday 2, but the Andalusian club will need to provide an alternative kick-off time if they are unhappy with the RFEF mandated time of 8:45pm CET on Saturday, August 31.

3) Matchday 3:

– The Basque derby between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad will now be played on Saturday, August 31 at 8:45pm CET, unless Athletic Club can find another kick-off time.

– Las Palmas host Racing Santander on Sunday, September 1 at 8:00pm CET, unless the hosts can find an alternative kick-off time.

– Girona’s match with Malaga will be played on Sunday, September 1 at 9:00pm CET, unless Girona can provide an alternative kick-off time.
