Nigeria might have a new goalkeeping gem in the making after Bundesliga star Noah Atubolu delivered another sensational penalty save in SC Freiburg’s dominant 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen.
The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who is fast becoming a penalty-saving specialist, denied Andre Silva from the spot—his fourth consecutive Bundesliga penalty save.
Atubolu’s Penalty Magic Continues
While Freiburg’s win boosted their Champions League hopes, the defining moment came in the 39th minute, when Atubolu kept Bremen from mounting a comeback with his clutch penalty stop.
Despite facing criticism from Freiburg fans earlier in the season, the Germany U21 international has been unshakable, previously denying Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Union Berlin duo Kevin Volland & Josip Juranovic.
Reacting to his latest heroics, Atubolu told DAZN:
🗣️ “I was very happy to save a penalty here at home in front of the fans. I put in a lot of time practising penalties, and I have my methods—but I’m not giving them away!”
Could Nigeria Secure Atubolu for the Super Eagles?
Born in Germany to Nigerian Igbo parents, Atubolu has represented Germany at youth levels but remains eligible to play for Nigeria.
With the Super Eagles in desperate need of a reliable goalkeeper, there is growing excitement over a potential switch of allegiance.
If Nigeria can convince him to wear the green and white, Atubolu could become the long-term solution to their goalkeeping woes—and possibly the next big name in African football! 🦅🔥
