The incident occurred at Aina Obey Street, Ajaka, in Sagamu Local Government Area, where the robbers reportedly carted away the machines and customers’ clothes kept for sewing.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the command had begun an investigation into the burglary with a promise to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Odutola, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday, said, “At about 09:40hrs, Saheed Oyewole, a tailor residing at Aina Obey Street, reported at the Sagamu Divisional Police Headquarters that he received a phone call from a neighbour around 07:40hrs, alerting him of a burglary that had occurred in his shop.

He listed items stolen to include three sewing machines valued at N540,000, one industrial sewing machine valued at N400,000, and customers’ materials whose value is yet to be determined.

She added that the Divisional Police Officer, Sagamu Division, had led a team of officers to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and commenced discreet intelligence gathering in collaboration with the local vigilante group to trace the culprits and recover the stolen items.

Odutola further noted that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, had ordered increased patrols in the area to prevent similar attacks.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to utilise the command’s public engagement platforms coordinated by the Police Public Relations Department to share useful information.

Ogunlowo advised business owners and residents to remain vigilant, strengthen security around their premises, and promptly report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station.

In a related case, PUNCH Online reports on November 2 that the Ogun State Police Command arrested the leader of a notorious robbery syndicate alleged to have terrorised multiple communities in the Ifo corridor, leading to relief among residents.
