Speaking in a recent interview, the singer explained that while writing the hook, something felt missing. In his words, It felt empty, and the thing that came to mind was that I have my money right. I knew it was Rihanna and Travis Scott, but what we had forgotten was that Ye was also part of that song.

The line he used appears in Rihanna’s smash hit B*** Better Have My Money*, which also has credits linked to Travis Scott and Kanye West.

Adekunle Gold revealed that once they realised Kanye West had a stake in the original record, he knew the clearance process would be a long road. He even referenced how difficult it is for global stars to get Ye’s approval.

I saw a video where J. Cole publicly called Ye to clear a song and that’s J. Cole, he said, stressing how unpredictable these processes can be.

According to him, securing the official green light took an entire year. Every part of the lyric had to be reviewed and approved before the song could be released a delay he didn’t expect when the creative idea first hit him.

Despite the hurdles, Coco Money eventually dropped in July and later appeared on Adekunle Gold’s latest album, Fuji, where it’s now one of the standout tracks
