Two passengers were caught at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport after they tried to smuggle pounds of cocaine.
According to CNN, Customs and Border Protection said the attempted smuggling went down last week, and the two passengers attempted to smuggle the drugs by taping it to their bodies.
The two men traveled on the same flight from the Dominican Republic, but it was unclear if they knew each other. According to authorities they reportedly had the drugs wrapped around their legs under their clothing, and one of the men also had the drugs taped to his back.
Leon Hayward, the current director of the CBP’s New York field said in a statement, “This latest seizure demonstrates our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs.”
The statement did not mention what caused the officers to search the two men, but authorities found a total of 23lbs of cocaine taped to them, which was estimated to be valued at $400,000.

The two men were arrested and are now facing federal narcotics smuggling charges. The CBP says that last month two other men were arrested on two different days for having drugs taped under their clothing.
