UCL: ‘We’re Still In It,’ Tuchel Talks Tough Ahead Of Man City Clash

Thomas Tuchel has dismissed claims his Bayern Munich side has nothing to play for in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League after suffering a three-goal deficit at the Etihad last Tuesday.

Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann in March to turn around what the board described as” backward in the league” and “not seen enough player development,” however, the start the German was craving has been mixed.

“We’re still in it. The draw always plays a part in the quarter-finals as well. Bayern always has the demand to reach the quarter-finals,” an optimistic Tuchel said during a press conference

Then it’s about form on the day, luck in games, or injuries. It’s a real challenge to play against City, who have been in outstanding form for a number of weeks.”

The 49-year-old who had tasted success in this competition with Chelsea back in 2021 was of the opinion that his boys would have to walk the walk and believe in themselves to deliver the goods.

We can’t create a miracle just by talking. Obviously, you address things differently. At 3-0, it’s about finding a realistic level. Our game on Saturday definitely didn’t help,” he said.

“We believe in ourselves and we believe we can win each half. If we win both halves, anything can happen. If you have some luck, which we didn’t have in the first leg. It’s about little things. It’s about finding that belief. At the same time, believing doesn’t mean dreaming. It’s our responsibility to pass on that spark, to get the fans with us. Then we’ll go one half at a time, one step at a time.”

Speaking on City’s form, Tuchel insisted that in spite of the English champions’ potency, Bayern are ready and will punish any mistake from his opposition.

“I know what City want to achieve. I had the feeling in the first leg that the momentum was going our way. Then we were punished.

“City are full of confidence, are in top form, and tough to beat. That’s the benchmark in Europe. But we’re ready. It’s about one game and anything’s possible. If the door is slightly open, we want to get a foot in there.”
