Uganda records 28 new Coronavirus cases

Uganda’s Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday 28 new cases of Coronavirus in the country, taking its total to 281.

Of the 2,004 samples collected from cross-border drivers and the community, 21 Ugandan truck drivers who arrived from neighboring South Sudan via the Elegu border point and seven contacts of previously confirmed patients under quarantine tested positive for the virus, the ministry said in a statement.

A total of 69 patients have recovered so far, with no deaths recorded, it added.

On Tuesday, Uganda began a phased reopening as it eased restrictions imposed in March to contain the pandemic.

Private transport, shops, hotels and restaurants have now resumed operations, alongside strict social distancing measures. (Xinhua/NAN)
