Chaos broke out at Miami International Airport after a UK-based Nigerian woman sparked panic when she allegedly snatched a crying 4-year-old boy from his mother.
The suspect, identified as Alvina Omisri Agba, 23, from Luton, England, shocked passengers when she refused to hand the child back, insisting the boy was hers.
Eyewitnesses said the drama started when the boy’s mother, Nadine Joseph, was queuing at Security Checkpoint 5 around 4 a.m. The woman had offered to calm the crying boy, but instead walked away with him.
By the time the stunned mother caught up, Agba had sat on the floor, tightly wrapping her arms and legs around the boy.
She kept shouting, ‘This is my child!’ while the mother was desperately trying to wrestle him back, one eyewitness recounted.
The chaos grew so intense that airline staff had to intervene, dragging the boy behind the counter for safety. Agba allegedly crawled under the counter in a frantic attempt to grab him again, but passengers blocked her.
Deputies later arrested her after a brief chase inside the terminal.
When confronted, Agba reportedly told police she acted because God told her to do it. She also claimed she wanted to take the boy to a rainbow-painted wall to calm him.
The child suffered scratches on his neck but was able to continue his journey with his mother.
Agba, who authorities confirmed was neither drunk nor on drugs, has been charged with interfering with custody and battery. She is being held at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center on a $3,500 bond.
The bizarre incident has triggered outrage, with many Nigerians online questioning how someone so young, and of Nigerian origin, got entangled in such a disturbing scandal abroad.
