Victor Osimhen undergoes a scan for an arm injury

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen arrived in Istanbul on Sunday night for tests on the arm injury he sustained during last Wednesday’s Champions League match against Liverpool at Anfield.

Osimhen will undergo further medical examinations today (Monday) to assess the severity of the fracture and determine whether surgery is necessary.

According to Turkish outlet Forza Cimbom, Osimhen’s arrival in Istanbul comes ahead of a crucial appointment with the club’s medical team. After today’s evaluation, a decision regarding surgery will be made based on the condition of his arm.

Galatasaray is anxiously awaiting updates on their star forward, who faces a potential three to five-month absence after being forced off in the Liverpool game due to the injury.

The Nigerian striker was injured in the first half after a challenge from Ibrahima Konaté. The club later confirmed that Osimhen had fractured his arm.

In an official statement, Galatasaray explained: In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at half-time, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.

Galatasaray added that hospital examinations confirmed a fracture in Osimhen’s right forearm, which has since been immobilized in a cast. The club noted that a decision on surgery will follow further evaluations in the coming days.

Osimhen, who recently appeared in public wearing a cast while in Nigeria, is facing a possible recovery period of three to five months, depending on whether surgery is required.

Despite their Champions League exit, Galatasaray remain dependent on Osimhen’s attacking contributions as they chase the Super Lig and domestic cup titles. This season, he has netted 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, helping Galatasaray maintain a four-point lead in the league. He also scored seven goals and recorded three assists in 10 Champions League outings before the team’s elimination.

Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük reports that Osimhen’s recovery is being closely monitored, with a chance of an earlier return if his healing progresses well. The club hopes the fracture will heal with the cast, but the need for surgery will be re-evaluated next week.

Notably, Osimhen has been omitted from Nigeria’s 23-man squad for this month’s friendlies against Jordan and Iran, both scheduled to take place in Turkey.
