We are committed to settling energy invoices – Eko Electric

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) said it has been consistent in the settlement of energy invoices from the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) from month to month.

The electricity distribution company’s management said EKEDC had never failed in remitting its monthly payment, queried why the company should be listed as one of the distribution companies that failed to remit payment in respect of the bulk energy invoice presented by NBET for January, 2018.

The company’s Chief Legal Officer, Wola Joseph-Ojoye, in a statement, said contrary to the report, the company had been consistent in the settlement of energy invoices from NBET from month to month.

Joseph-Ojoye further stated that an energy invoice for the previous month usually came towards the end of the following month with the invoice bearing a due date for payment.

He said the bill for January, 2018, was received on the February 26, 2018, and that payment was made by the company on March 6, 2018, which was before the payment’s due date.

Stating that the error would have been averted if the media platforms that carried the report had crosschecked their facts with the company, he advised that proper clarification of reports of this nature should be done before publication so as to avoid misleading the public with misinformation and half-truths.

The company also stated that it held the media in high esteem as veritable partners and stakeholders in all their activities and operations, adding that being a customer-centric utility company, EKEDC owed its customers and members of the public the duty to communicate the true position of the company on issues.
