American media personality Kim Kardashian has explained why she modified her name in 2007. The socialite in an interview with Time, revealed that she changed her name ahead of the launch of the reality TV show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Kim also disclosed that she felt her previous name Kimberly Kardashian, was too long for people to say. She stated that this influenced her decision to shorten it to Kim.
I used to always go by Kimberly, until we signed on to do the reality show. And when I looked at my chyron, Kimberly Kardashian, I said, I think that’s so long for people to say. And like, Let’s just shorten it to Kim she said.
Kim, however, revealed that she still has not gotten used to the new name, stating that people who knew her years back still refer to her as Kimberly.
It’s so weird, because all my friends from high school and growing up, and my dad, everyone calls me Kimberly, she added.
