Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has praised FCT residents for their peaceful conduct during the recent elections, describing it as a clear demonstration of their commitment to democracy and good governance.
Wike remarked that the election results have unmasked the true nature of political actors, particularly those who attempt to sway voters through superficial gestures, such as buying corn and groundnuts from roadside vendors as a campaign tactic. He emphasized that the electorate is now more discerning and can distinguish between the ruling party and the genuine opposition.
Yesterday, FCT residents showed they cannot be deceived by so-called emergency democrats who refuse to acknowledge the positive developments in our country and government, Wike stated in a special broadcast on Sunday evening, according to a statement issued by his media aide, Lere Olayinka.
The minister also commended President Bola Tinubu, noting that the successful election is a testament to the President’s leadership and vision. He highlighted the positive impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has restored optimism and confidence among FCT residents.
I am grateful to Mr. President for the transformation witnessed in the FCT. The Renewed Hope Agenda has given us hope for a brighter future. Under President Tinubu’s leadership, the FCT will continue to serve as a model for development and progress,” Wike said.
He further applauded President Tinubu for his unwavering support for democracy, citing the amendment of the Electoral Act as a significant step toward strengthening credible elections. This, he noted, underscores the President’s dedication to enhancing the country’s democratic process.
Wike also congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free, fair, and credible election, and expressed appreciation to the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful voting environment.
He urged the election winners to serve with humility, dedication, and a commitment to excellence, calling on them to work tirelessly to uplift the lives of FCT residents and promote community development.
Addressing FCT residents, particularly those in the satellite towns, Wike thanked them for turning out in large numbers and participating peacefully. Your involvement reaffirms your faith in our democracy. I encourage you to continue supporting government efforts to build a better FCT. As an administration, we remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, he concluded.
