Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has advised the club against signing Jadon Sancho permanently, questioning his ability to thrive in the Premier League.
Sancho’s Chelsea Struggles
Sancho, who joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United following a fallout with Erik ten Hag, has failed to impress, registering zero goals in 14 appearances.
His loan deal includes a mandatory purchase clause if Chelsea finishes 14th or higher, with a transfer fee set between £22-25 million. Given Enzo Maresca’s side is currently in the top four, a permanent move seems likely.
Gallas’ Verdict: “Send Him Back”
Gallas, however, believes Chelsea should reject the option to sign Sancho permanently.
“I’d pay the fee to send him back to Manchester United rather than signing him permanently. He hasn’t shown the consistency we expected. Maybe the Premier League is too hard for him.”
The former Arsenal and Spurs defender stressed that Sancho struggles with the physical and mental demands of English football.
“The Premier League is about intensity. You have to perform every game. It’s not like the Bundesliga or Ligue 1. Sancho has yet to adapt.”
Sancho’s Uncertain Future
Sancho’s contract at Manchester United runs until 2026, with his massive £250,000-per-week wages posing a major challenge.
Currently, Chelsea covers £100,000 of his salary, while United covers the rest. If Chelsea decides against a permanent deal, United will have to find another suitor for the struggling winger.
Should Chelsea keep or send Sancho back? 🤔
