Sylvester Stallone: How Dolph Lundgren almost killed me in ‘Rocky IV’

Sylvester Stallone, the ace Hollywood actor, says he nearly died during the making of ‘Rocky IV’, the 1985 American sports drama film.

The 75-year-old actor brought this revelation to light ahead of the release of a new recut version of the film.

In the reworked boxing epic, Stallone recalled his first day of filming a fight scene with Dolph Lundgren, who portrayed Rocky Balboa’s main rival Ivan Drago in the sequel.

He said Lundgren put him in the hospital during the filming after hitting him so hard, it was “like being in a car accident.”

Stallone also disclosed that he was in the intensive care unit for about four days before returning to film the final fight in ‘Rocky IV’.

“In the first round, where he knocked me down, that is for real,” he said.

“He pulverized me and I did not feel it at that moment but later that night my heart started to swell.

He had bruised the perio cardio sac, which is when the heart hits the chest – like in a car accident when your chest hits the steering wheel.

“My blood pressure went up to 260. They thought I was going to be talking to angels.”

Stallone is one of Hollywood’s biggest actors. Ahead of its debut on November 11, Stallone has been keeping in touch with his fans on his social media pages.
