Vermaelen has made it onto the squad list for Barça’s big game against Bayern Munich.
This has been the first time that the Belgian international has been included since he was signed last summer. Up until today, the player had been out with a serious injury.
Due to Mathieu’s unavailability, Vermaelen is the big surprise in the line-up that Luis Enrique made public this morning. All of the ‘Azulgranas’ big names have been included.
These are the eighteen Barcelona players chosen for tonight’s Champions League semi-finals game: Ter Stegen, Bravo, Dani Alves, Adriano, Alba, Piqué, Bartra, Mascherano, Vermaelen, Sergio Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Rakitic, Rafinha, Pedro Rodríguez, Neymar Jr., Suárez and Messi.
Masip, Douglas, Montoya and Sergi Roberto have been left off the list, as well as Mathieu, who has niggles in the Achilles tendon of his right leg. It is precisely because of the Frenchman’s injury that Vermaelen has been selected.
