The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the “Notice of Polls” for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections, scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
According to the statement released on Wednesday, voting will commence at 8:30 AM across all polling units within the FCT.
Eligibility and Voting Process
INEC has emphasized that only eligible voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and whose names appear on the official register of voters will be allowed to cast their ballots.
The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed for the exercise, reinforcing INEC’s commitment to transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
“No PVC, no voting,” the commission stated firmly, urging voters to ensure they have their PVCs ready before the election day.
Election Coverage and Logistics
The elections will cover the six Area Councils within the FCT, with all polling units prepared to accommodate registered voters.
INEC’s announcement serves as a reminder for residents to participate actively and ensure they meet the necessary requirements to exercise their franchise.
