Nollywood actor Jide Awobona’s recent encounter with actress Mo Bimpe and her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, at a Lagos movie premiere has reignited conversations online.
The meeting took place during the premiere of “Starlomo,” a new film by skit maker and actor Kamo State, which drew several notable figures from the Nigerian film industry.
A video from the event captured Awobona greeting Mo Bimpe and Lateef. While his exchange with Bimpe was succinct, he lingered longer with Lateef. In the clip, Awobona joked that he did not want to “trend for a week,” prompting Lateef to reply that he “had time for that.
The moment has triggered fresh reactions on social media, with many referencing an earlier viral video involving Awobona and Bimpe.
That previous clip, filmed at the premiere of “A Mama Deola Wedding Story” on September 2, showed Bimpe seated between her husband and Awobona, resting her head on Awobona’s shoulder while showing him something on her phone.
The video drew mixed responses, with some questioning the nature of their interaction, while others dismissed the speculation as an overreaction to a harmless moment between colleagues.
Addressing the controversy, Bimpe posted on Instagram on September 7, emphasizing the importance of trust, friendship, and confidence in marriage: “Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence.”
Lateef also shared a post that many followers interpreted as a subtle response to the online chatter, writing, “Guard your mental space from social media noise, own your focus, and stay undefeated.”
