Judge Shuns Request to Step Down in Emefiele’s Trial

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja, has dismissed a request to recuse himself from the trial of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Delivering his ruling on Wednesday, Justice Oshodi made it clear that the defence’s allegations of bias were baseless, stating that there was no evidence strong enough to justify his withdrawal from the case.

Emefiele’s legal team, led by Olalekan Ojo, had on Monday urged the judge to step down, arguing that his past rulings hinted at possible bias. But the EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, stood firm, maintaining that the trial had been fair and transparent.

After reviewing all arguments, Justice Oshodi ruled that the application lacked merit and threw it out, setting the stage for the continuation of Emefiele’s trial.
