Paul Scholes Predicts Manchester United Will Sell Key Players to Fund Summer Transfers

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has identified two young stars he believes the club could offload in the summer in a bid to raise funds for new signings. Scholes suggests that Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, both of whom have significant market value, could be sold as part of United’s rebuilding efforts.

With the team’s current season heading toward disappointment, new manager Ruben Amorim faces the challenge of revamping a fractured squad. While Amorim has acknowledged the financial constraints that will limit his ability to sign top-tier players, Scholes feels that player sales will be crucial in generating the funds needed for reinforcements.

In a discussion on Premier League Productions, Scholes expressed concern over United’s transfer budget. “It doesn’t look like Ruben Amorim will get a war chest to go to war with,” he said. “I think they might sell the two young players. I think they might sell Mainoo and Garnacho. The Mainoo one would hurt. He’s been at the club since he was a kid.”

Scholes noted that the potential sale of Mainoo, in particular, would reflect badly on United’s academy system, especially given his impressive performances last season. Garnacho and Mainoo are valued at around £85 million combined, according to Transfermarkt, making them appealing assets for other clubs.

However, Scholes emphasized that these two players are not the only ones who could be sold. Other players currently out on loan, such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, may also be moved on permanently. Additionally, a number of veterans, including Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton, will leave the club when their contracts expire in July, further clearing space on the wage bill.

With a relatively modest initial transfer budget, Amorim will have to make tough decisions in order to strengthen Manchester United’s squad for next season.
