The 33-year-old artiste, born Damini Ogulu, shared a cryptic message on his No Sign of Weakness album promotional page on Wednesday, suggesting a dramatic shift in his identity and career.

In the post, Burna Boy claimed that the persona associated with his African Giant era, a title derived from his 2019 album, was killed by his own people.

He revealed that a group called Big 7 now protects what remains of his legacy, describing an internal struggle between his past and present selves.

The African Giant BURNA BOY died. His own people killed him, he wrote. Then BIG 7 was born to protect what was left of BURNA BOY.

BURNA BOY and BIG7 fight each other a lot because while BIG 7 is only protecting the final and only existing piece of BURNA BOY’S BROKEN HEART, The African Giant still haunts BURNA BOY.

The post has left fans on X speculating about its meaning. Some users believe it hints at betrayal by close associates or dissatisfaction with audience expectations, while others view it as a creative marketing strategy for his upcoming album.

Below are some reactions on X:

Since his breakout single Like to Party (2013), Burna Boy has risen to global stardom, releasing seven acclaimed albums including L.I.F.E (2013), On a Spaceship (2015), Outside (2018), African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022) and I Told Them (2023).

In 2021, the Afro-fusion artiste won the Best World Music Album category at the Grammy Awards for his fifth album Twice As Tall.

Burna Boy hinted at rebranding himself in February when he made several changes to his social media pages.

Last weekend, he also announced that his upcoming album No Sign of Weakness will be exclusively available to fans who purchase tickets to his concerts.
