Fubara’s return sparks massive gathering in Port Harcourt

The loyalists, drawn from all 23 local government areas of the state, included a range of political figures, most notably Victor Oko-Jumbo, the former Speaker of the disbanded, controversial three-man House of Assembly. Oko-Jumbo, who was heavily aligned with Fubara during the political turmoil, led the crowd as they eagerly waited for the governor’s arrival.

With chants of “We have come to possess our possession”, the supporters appeared unified in their commitment to the governor’s leadership. The scene at the Government House was one of jubilation, with women dressed in bright, colourful outfits, troupes of dancers, and both youth and elders joining in the spirited celebration.

Despite the visible excitement, the exact time of Governor Fubara’s arrival remained unclear, with no official word on whether he would address the crowd upon reaching the Government House. Nevertheless, the show of support was unmistakable, as the loyalists kept pouring in, waiting for any sign of their leader.

Fubara, his Deputy Mrs Ngozi Odu and the State House of Assembly, were reinstated on Thursday by President Bola Tinubu following the expiration of the six months state of emergency he imposed on March 18.

The state of emergency was imposed by Tinubu following political unrest in the state.
