Dosu compares Nwabali to Higuita, Campos, calls him fearless

Former Olympic goalkeeper Joseph Dosu said that Stanley Nwabali sometimes overdoes things, but he is the kind of goalkeeper Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle likes.

Dosu explained that Nwabali is a good goalkeeper because he stays calm under pressure and can make key saves that can change a game.

Fans are still unsure who should be the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper. Some like Nwabali’s bold style, while others worry that he takes too many risks.

Compared to his early days in the Nigerian Premier Football League, where he would dribble from goal to midfield, Nwabali’s current style is more controlled.

His unpredictable and creative way of playing has been compared to famous goalkeepers like René Higuita and Jorge Campos.

Speaking on ThePlayzone podcast, Dosu said Chelle prefers goalkeepers who are bold and fearless.

The first time I saw him was when my older brother, who was the goalkeeper coach for Go Round, showed me a picture. He’s tall, strong, and a good goalkeeper for the future, Dosu said.

He added, If he focuses and works hard, he will definitely play for the national team. The most important thing is what coach Chelle thinks.

He likes goalkeepers who communicate well and make the opposition nervous. Nwabali sometimes overdoes things, but he works hard and keeps the ball out of the net. He isn’t a bad goalkeeper.

Nwabali has kept eight clean sheets in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, just two fewer than Nigeria’s record holder, Vincent Enyeama.
