Morocco dominates Kenya to kick off WAFCON campaign in style

Morocco kicked off their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in style, sweeping aside Kenya 4-0 in their Group A opener at the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan in Rabat on Sunday.

The hosts set the tone early, taking control of the match and opening the scoring in the 19th minute when S. Ouzraoui converted Y. K. Mrabet’s assist, sending the home crowd into celebration. Nine minutes later, M. Atiq doubled Morocco’s lead, and by the 32nd minute, I. Jraidi made it 3-0 after a well-worked move involving H. Ait El Haj. This dominant first-half display left Morocco firmly in command at halftime.

Morocco wasted no time putting the result beyond doubt after the break, with Jraidi netting her second of the night just two minutes into the second half—again assisted by Ait El Haj. The Atlas Lionesses’ relentless attack left Kenya unable to respond, even after making three halftime substitutions in an attempt to shift the momentum.

The statistics underscored Morocco’s dominance: the hosts enjoyed 65% possession, fired 19 shots to Kenya’s eight, and created four big chances compared to just one for the visitors. Morocco also tallied 30 touches inside Kenya’s penalty area, while Kenya managed only five—highlighting the clear difference in attacking threat.

This emphatic win gives Morocco a perfect start on their path to continental glory and a crucial early lead in Group A. Kenya, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
