Davido: Nigerian politics is corrupt… I want no involvement in it.

Davido, the acclaimed Afrobeats singer, has announced that he no longer wants to be involved in Nigerian politics, describing the political scene as evil.

The 33-year-old artist made his statement on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a post by Dayo Israel, the national youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his post, Dayo Israel outlined three reasons he believed led to the APC’s defeat in the recent governorship election.

The election saw Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke running as the Accord Party candidate—emerge victorious with 511,067 votes, defeating the APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, who garnered 444,815 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came in third with 17,180 votes.

The APC youth leader credited Davido’s influence as a major factor in the Accord Party’s win, claiming the musician mobilized other artistes, influencers, and young people in support of the campaign.

He said Davido was at the forefront of youth mobilisation, leveraging his celebrity status, digital presence, and credibility to energise the campaign and connect with a younger generation.

However, Davido refuted these claims, insisting that he did not bring any artistes or influencers to sway the election. The singer clarified that he supported his family independently, without help from industry colleagues.

In a passionate response, Davido said: I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww! I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us!

This is not the first time Davido has voiced reservations about Nigerian politics. After announcing his political ambitions in December 2025 and declaring his intention to join Accord, he later had second thoughts, expressing concerns that political involvement could negatively impact his music career.

Nevertheless, he was eventually named head of youth mobilisation for Accord during his uncle’s re-election campaign.

Davido has also recently reiterated that he will never support the APC.
