NDLEA Seizes Record 184.5kg Cocaine, Arrests Socialite KC Luxury and Logistics Staff

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking syndicate that allegedly used Nigeria as a transit point to move illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe, and Asia.

The agency also apprehended the group’s alleged Nigerian leader, Afolabi Michael—popularly known as KC Luxury—a self-styled luxury goods dealer and social media influencer, as he attempted to flee the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi revealed that the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), announced the breakthrough while addressing journalists in Lagos. Marwa described the operation as one of the agency’s most significant narcotics investigations in recent years. It resulted in the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine—the largest such haul ever intercepted through a courier company in Nigeria.

According to Marwa, the operation began when NDLEA operatives intercepted a cocaine consignment concealed for export via a courier logistics channel in Lagos. Given the magnitude of the seizure, Marwa immediately set up a Special Investigation Team to unravel the entire network behind the shipment, from couriers to masterminds. He noted that the cartel anticipated making as much as N39 billion from the consignment through its international distribution network.

Working closely with the courier company involved, NDLEA investigators uncovered a web of intermediary companies and individuals used to process the shipment, leading to the arrest of two principal suspects. The first, Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics firm, was allegedly responsible for packaging and processing consignments for the syndicate and facilitating their movement to the UK, Europe, and Asia in exchange for cash payments.

The second and more prominent suspect, Afolabi Kazeem Michael (KC Luxury), was identified as the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator. Posing online as a social media influencer and luxury goods dealer, Afolabi allegedly used his glamorous public persona to mask a criminal enterprise that trafficked cocaine from South America through Nigeria and onward to Europe and Asia.

Afolabi was arrested at the boarding gate of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on August 13, 2026, after intelligence indicated plans to escape on a business-class flight to Paris. He was found in possession of €7,750, £2,800, and N100,000 in cash, along with expensive jewelry. A search of his luxury apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, led to the recovery of exotic vehicles.

Investigations revealed that the cartel used false identities to disguise the true consignors of shipments and relied on financial facilitators who moved billions of naira on its behalf. The syndicate also maintained criminal contacts in the UK, some of whom have been arrested by British authorities.

Marwa linked the success of this operation to recent NDLEA victories against transnational drug networks, including the takedown of the Switzerland-based Simon Amadi cartel and the dismantling of two Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicates operating clandestine labs in Ogun and Oyo states.

He emphasized that drug traffickers can no longer hide behind luxury lifestyles, forests, ports, or courier companies, stating: “These operations send an unmistakable signal that this Agency’s reach extends into the ports, the forests, the luxury apartments, and the departure lounges alike, and that no sanctuary exists anywhere in Nigeria for those who traffic in poison.”

Marwa also noted a shift in tactics by drug trafficking organizations, who now exploit courier and logistics companies—perceived as less scrutinized channels—to move narcotics across borders. He stressed that the NDLEA’s success, from intercepting the cocaine to arresting the alleged syndicate leader, demonstrates the agency’s capacity to track traffickers wherever they operate.

Highlighting international cooperation as key to the operation’s success, Marwa praised the near-simultaneous arrests of cartel members in Nigeria and the UK, commending both the agency’s international partners and the Special Investigation Team for their professionalism.

He issued a final warning: To those who believe they can hide behind luxury brands, glamorous lifestyles, and social media personas while trafficking poison into our communities and across our borders, this Agency will find you
