Newly disclosed emails have revealed a contentious dispute between Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, and the late actor’s brothers in the wake of his death.
The correspondence, obtained by TMZ, details how Boseman’s family pressed for answers about his final days, requesting access to his medical records, personal information, and the preservation of data from his electronic devices.
Shortly after Boseman’s passing, lawyers representing his parents and brothers sent a letter to Ledward Boseman’s legal team, asking that phone and computer data be preserved and seeking financial documentation.
The family’s attorneys stated their intent was to ensure Boseman’s wishes regarding his estate were honored. However, the tone of the exchanges soon became combative.
In a letter dated December 1, 2020, Ledward Boseman’s lawyers accused the actor’s brothers of escalating matters, arguing that their aggressive approach shifted what had been collaborative discussions about the estate into a legal confrontation.
Ledward Boseman’s team insisted she had tried to include the family in efforts to preserve Boseman’s legacy, but said the brothers had forced the situation into court.
The dispute soon expanded beyond inheritance issues. The brothers raised questions about the circumstances of Boseman’s final days, specifically why he was found on the floor of his bedroom when he died.
They requested an autopsy and, according to the emails, expressed concerns about medical findings, including toxicology reports indicating the presence of hydromorphone in Boseman’s system, which they wanted more fully explained.
Despite the heated exchanges, the documents do not suggest any wrongdoing or alter the official determination that Boseman died in 2020 due to complications from colon cancer.
The emails also highlight disagreements over Boseman’s wishes for the distribution of residual payments from his films, with his brothers claiming he left specific instructions about how the money should be allocated among family members.
The legal battle has persisted, with Boseman’s brothers later seeking to remove Ledward Boseman as administrator of his estate a move she has contested.
